It just doesn’t know when to call it a day! The inability to absorb and release heat can be due to a broken defrost control board and sensors, incorrect refrigerant charge, or an aging system that is no longer efficient. If your outdoor unit is running non-stop, it’s likely struggling to absorb the heat from your home or release heat outside. Your outdoor unit shouldn’t be running a never-ending race. Is your heat pump sporting some frosty fashion (aka ice) on the surface? Frequent and dense ice build-up on your outdoor unit is a sign you might have a problem with your defrost control board and sensors.
